Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Tenants
Where do I start?
You can start looking for properties by navigating to the browse section. Or, if you are a more visual person, check out the interactive map.
Will eCollegeCribs.com send me spam email if I sign up for an account?
Absolutely not. The only time you will ever get an email from us:
- The initial activation email
- If you need to reset your password
- If you are a landlord and a potential renter wishes to contact you.
Why should I sign up for an account?
Many landlords restrict visibility of their listings to users who have signed up for an account with a verified email address. Others want only students from a particular school to be able to see their listings. Since the only way we can really determine your student status is your email address, you must sign up for an account with your school email address in order to gain accesss to the listings that have been restricted. (I.e. if you sign up with an "@brown.edu" email address, you will gain access to all the listings that have been restricted to students from Brown.)
Signing up for an account at eCollegeCribs.com also gives you the ability to "bookmark" listings that you are interested in. Further, once you are a member you can compare different properties in tabular format. Sign up now!

How do I prevent users from seeing my real email address?
You can set this option in preferences. Users who can see your listing will still be able to email you through our online form, but they will not know your true email address.
How do I restrict my listing to students?
If you have already submitted your listing, you can do this by editing the existing listing. The privacy settings are visible near the bottom of the page. Uncheck the boxes representing the types of users you do not wish to be able to access your listing.
If you have not yet submitted your listing, you can set these same options in the final step of the Add property process.
What if my property has been rented?
Remember to inactivate your listing if you have agreed to rent a given property. You can do this from the by navigating to My Listings and clicking Edit. This will eliminate frivolous contact from users. Inactivating a listing does not remove it from our database; it simply makes the property invisible to everyone except you. You can re-activate it next year when you will once again be looking for tenants. Alternatively, once your property is rented, you could simply change the lease terms of the listing for the next year.
